The Strategic Approach

The pizza market is saturated, often polarized between dusty, traditional Italian parlors and soulless corporate chains. "Slice," a new fast-casual concept, needed to carve out an immediate presence in a competitive urban environment.

They weren't just selling pizza; they were selling a vibe—fast, high-quality, and unapologetically fun. The challenge was to create a visual identity that appealed to a digitally native, hype-driven audience that appreciates personality over pretension. They needed a brand that felt like streetwear: bold, shareable, and slightly irreverent.

We determined that Slice needed to move away from traditional pizza tropes (red checkered tablecloths, rustic ovens) and lean into a high-energy, almost cartoonish aesthetic that felt modern and edgy.

The strategy centered on creating a dual-threat identity:

  1. A clean, functional primary logo for quick identification in digital spaces (apps, maps).

  2. A charismatic mascot to serve as the emotional anchor and "voice" of the brand on social media and merchandise.

The vibe aimed for the sweet spot between Saturday morning cartoons and modern urban skate culture.

The Execution

The Palette: High-Voltage Appetite
We bypassed the muted marinara reds of traditional pizzerias. Instead, I selected a hyper-saturated duo of Electric Orange and Sunshine Yellow.

Why: These colors are biologically wired to stimulate appetite, but when dialed up to maximum vibrance, they feel energetic, urgent, and undeniably modern.

The Typography: Lively and Loose
The wordmark "Slice" needed bounce and movement. I chose typography that is lively and slightly cartoonish, but with sharp angles that give it an "edgy" feel. It’s playful, but it isn't childish; it has the kinetic energy of graffiti tag art, cleaned up for a corporate application.

The Logo: The Modern Container
The primary logo needed to be deceptively simple. We utilized a minimalist, angular pizza slice shape to act as the container for the lively wordmark. This container grounds the energetic text, creating a clean badge that works perfectly as a social media avatar or storefront signage.

The Mascot: The embodiment of "Chef's Kiss"The heart of the brand identity is the mascot, a character designed to embody the swagger of the restaurant's culinary output.

The Character: An anthropomorphic pizza slice, confident and cool.

The Pose: We ditched the friendly wave. This character holds a pizza peel thrown casually over its shoulder like a baseball bat—a signal of readiness and attitude.

The Gesture: The defining feature is the "chef's kiss." It’s a universal meme of perfection, cocky yet endearing. The mascot isn't asking you to like the pizza; it knows the pizza is perfect.

Brand Application
The dichotomy between the clean logo and the wild mascot allows for dynamic branding applications.

Packaging: The pizza boxes feature the clean logo on top for easy stacking, but opening the lid reveals the full-color, large-scale mascot inside—a "wow" moment meant for Instagram Stories.

Merchandise: Staff uniforms include streetwear-style tees and snapbacks featuring the slice logo, turning employees into brand ambassadors.

The Outcome

The resulting identity is a cohesive, versatile system that feels intensely energetic, perfectly matching the fast-paced, delicious experience of the restaurant itself.
